Does ASA need an enclosure?
Yes — ASA needs an enclosure (or at minimum a serious draft shield). On an open-frame printer ambient drafts cool layers unevenly, which causes warping, cracking, and parts detaching mid-print.
Does ASA need drying?
ASA benefits from drying if the spool has been stored open. Fresh from a sealed bag it prints fine; after a humid week on the shelf, a few hours in a filament dryer restores it.
